As temperatures heat up across the country and travelers look to embark on a summer vacation, there’s one destination those in the know go to escape sweltering temperatures and massive crowds—Santa Maria Valley. A 30-mile stretch along the California Central Coast, here, the climate stays “just right” with a daily average of 73 degrees between June and October.
And, while the temperature doesn’t often change this time of year, there are plenty of new and exciting eateries and experiences awaiting those either returning for a summer visit or looking to experience this part of California for the first time.

Become a Bien Nacido insider and increase your wine country knowledge with a private electric all-terrain vehicle tour of the vineyard and winery, and a guided tasting at The Gatehouse. Tours accommodate up to five guests. The cost is $150 per person, and reservations are available here.
Beso Cocina & Cocktails
The Central Coast Restaurant Group has done it again. Located in Nipomo, Beso Cocina serves elevated but hearty Mexican dishes by the vision and direction of Head Chef Ernesto Picazo. Throughout his extensive career, Picazo has been influenced by Mexican fare and also inspired by fine global cuisine.
Beso Cocina prides itself on sourcing the finest authentic ingredients for its dishes in an environment that is inviting and enjoyable for the whole family. The menu offers seasonal food & drink selections found far beyond the traditional Mexican table and incorporates fine dining dishes like pastas, pizzas and seafood. And for those looking for some retro flair, there’s even a speakeasy (if you can find it) with a large menu of Beso Signature Cocktails.
The Collective
Offering a vibrant and dynamic marketplace bringing together local concepts into a bustling and community-oriented environment is the Collective. Located near the Santa Maria airport, proprietors within Collective include 805 Charcuterie, the Bar at the Collective and Simple Cafe. Others opening soon are Dave’s Dogs, Dave’s Drip House, Freda’s Kitchen and Maya Mexican Restaurant.
“The Collective brings together many long-standing Santa Maria Valley favorites, along with some highly-anticipated newcomers, into one convenient location,” Jennifer Harrison, Tourism Director of Santa Maria Valley, said. “Along with Beso Cocina & Cocktails, we continue adding to our notable dining experiences across Santa Maria Valley. While we’re, of course, known for our Santa Maria Style barbecue, there really is something for everyone and every palate in Santa Maria Valley.”
